Viva La Flame Resistance! Natural Materials that Light Our Fire (But Not Your Car Seat)

Posted by Monica Givati on

When it comes to your baby’s safety, every detail matters—especially the materials used in the products you trust every day. At babyark, we believe peace of mind starts with transparency. That means we stand behind every single element we choose for our car seats - whether material or mechanism. And we’re happy to explain, expand, or expound.

A common question we’ve been getting from parents recently is:

“What is the difference between flame resistance and flame retardant? How do I know which is which, and does it matter?”

We love the spark of curiosity, and to ignite inquisitive minds. So let’s light the match, and keep the fire of knowledge burning, just far away from our cars and our kids!

“How do I know if my car seat is flame resistant?”

Great question! On the babyark website, information regarding flame resistance can be found listed on the car seat specifications

Companies will often note which materials were used, which regulations they meet, and what makes their components flame resistant or retardant. All car seats on the market must meet rigorous safety standards to ensure your little one is protected, even in the event of a fire.

But not all flame protection is created equal.

Flame Resistant vs. Flame Retardant: What’s the Difference?

  • Flame-Resistant Materials: These are fabrics made from fibers that naturally resist burning. Their fire resistance is built-in at the molecular level—no chemical treatment required.

  • Flame-Retardant Materials: These fabrics are treated with chemical agents to help them resist or extinguish flames. These additional components more proactively prevent the spread of flame. They are widely used and approved for safety, so if you have flame-retardant products, don’t sweat it!  That being said, keep in mind that their flame suppression is due to the addition of these chemicals to the product, altering the material with that specific purpose in mind.ֿ

Flame Resistant or Retardant - What Does babyark Use?

Here’s where we stand: babyark uses only naturally flame-resistant materials in our convertible car seats. That means a focus on safety in the event of fire, but with no added flame retardant chemicals, without compromising on the quality and lushness of our fabrics. As always, we prioritize your baby’s safety, health, and comfort, and your peace of mind. So even if your car-aoke is fire 🔥, you know your child is well protected. Can’t shield you from their criticism, though. Science only goes so far, so keep that in mind when belting the high notes.

Flame Resistance - Why the “Natural” Choice Matters

Babies spend a lot of time in their car seats—whether it’s a quick ride to the store or a long road trip. Knowing that your child is surrounded by high-performance, naturally protective materials brings an extra layer of comfort to every journey.

Our mission has always been clear: to raise the standard in child passenger safety. That means smart design, tough materials, and a commitment to keeping the addition of unnecessary or extraneous chemicals away from your baby’s environment. Because however naturally (or not) parenting comes to you, your child’s car seat should bring the best of nature as a continuation of your embrace for car rides. And comfort, convenience, and advanced materials are part of our holistic approach to safety.

So viva la flame resistance! With babyark, you’re not just choosing cutting-edge safety, you’re choosing clean, thoughtful design from the inside out.
