Created for Crash Protection

Posted by babyark Marketing on

Safety first is more than a saying, it’s the driving force behind everything we do to redefine child safety and expand what is possible in protection. While ease of use, comfort, and design are of course prioritized along the way, babyark’s clear mission of child safety is the guiding principle behind each and every choice along the way as we push the standards into a new dimension.

The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts

Everything about babyark’s convertible car seat was deliberately developed to deliver optimum crash protection. babyark was created with the best in engineering, adapting aviation-grade materials and patents to bring innovation to car seats. Each piece and every process was engineered with the final product in mind in order to ensure that all elements work in harmony to further our mission of redefining child safety. Bringing together the best minds across both science and design ensured a collaborative process that continues to this day, with tweaks, improvements, and evolution to make sure each piece - from the smallest spring to the zip-off fabric covers - helps comfort meet confidently-secure.

What does safety-first mean in such a painstaking process as creating the newest in convertible car seats? We’ll dive into some of the innovative features of babyark car seats that were carefully cultivated to provide premium protection.

Convertible Car Seats Have a New Triple Threat

babyark is the only convertible car seat to feature the triple threat of rigid LATCH, an anti-rebound bar, and a front load support leg. These work in congress to create a pyramid of stability and unparalleled energy-absorbing capabilities. After reviewing extensive data on testing and car seat installation across various countries, in addition to months of considering variations and conducting tests on prototypes and completed car seats for simulations, it was clear that this three-point support system was the most likely to be correctly installed and (thus) an even more effective way of connecting the seat securely to the car while protecting precious cargo.

Each feature on its own is an important safety component, but when leveraged together, they truly level-up protection. Further, the simple, guided installation process of babyark car seats ensures that all of the built-in components of energy absorption and redistribution are actively protecting your child and ready to act in the case of impact. By taking the guesswork out of what to install, and how, babyark reduces the likelihood of human error or oversight. And by walking caretakers through the installation process, babyark minimizes the stress of wondering if it’s been done right, and the danger of perhaps not knowing if it has not.

Side Impact Protection That Takes Center Stage

One step in the install process instructs the caretaker to press the button and pull to open the side wing on the vehicle door side of the seat in order to leverage the patented BioArk™ Side Impact Protection System. As, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), side-impact crashes are responsible for 25% of deaths among children in car crashes, this patented approach is an important piece that the app’s guided installation ensures caretakers not overlook. The system applies the concept of energy absorption and redistribution as seen in nature in the protection mechanisms surrounding the woodpecker’s brain, a concept known as biomimicry. In the case of side impact, the wing closes and redistributes energy into the entirety of the seat and away from the child.

SafeCoil™  - a Revolutionary Energy Absorption and Redistribution Mechanism

The core structure of the car seat takes the best of aviation-grade materials and mindsets, harnessing the strength of steel and the wisdom of engineering to bring the next evolution of car seat safety.  Having seen the incredible efficacy of their patented steel coils in keeping passengers safe in everything from helicopters to armored vehicles, Shy and his founding partners understood that they were onto something special that could push the boundaries of what car seats could be.

This is where babyark’s SafeCoil™ technology is unparalleled. Upon impact, babyark’s SafeCoil™ steel coil expands, reducing the force and forward momentum and differential between the seat and its environment. This means that your baby experiences a gentler, more gradual “stop” as the car seat comes to rest, with the car seat itself siphoning off energy from the impact across its core components and away from the baby. Not only does that make for a more pleasant experience, more importantly - it significantly reduces the chance of head injury, with crash tests showing improved HIC ratings

Nothing about the babyark is incidental. And the same careful thought process that led to safety precautions taken for the steel core and energy absorption technologies was used in the selection of each and every element. babyark’s high standard for materials applies across the board. This means that, instead of using materials like plastic that degrades over time, suffering from wear and tear and eventually requiring the car seat to be retired, babyark uses industry-grade steel, part of the rationale behind its lack of expiration date. And for the JoltFree™ Headrest? Styrofoam won’t do. Instead, we use the world’s most technologically-advanced impact absorbing polymer D30® to protect the most sensitive areas of your child’s skull.

Wondering if the design of the car seat prioritizes form over function? babyark Design Director Frank Stephenson of automotive design fame (responsible for such hits as the Mini Cooper Hatch) took inspiration from one of nature’s most protective shapes - the egg. The babyark convertible car seats embrace your child, not a chair in which to sit but a shell to surround your child in safety.

Also exciting about how the babyark was designed with foresight into details to soothe the nerves and please the eye? You install the base once, and when it’s time to switch to forward-facing (where your child can stay through 65 pounds or 6 years old), all you have to do is place the seat on the base in the forward-facing direction. No need to reinstall, rethread, super-duper uber-looper or put a new swoop through any hoop. Intuitive, and easy. And even better? babyark allows for rear-facing up to 50 pounds, which means your baby stays safely and snugly facing back for longer.

And because this car seat has gotten quite the reputation for being comfortable for even the most finicky baby, they’ll likely be so content in their lush digs that they won’t complain about the view or the position, just coo happily.
